ANDABATA
The Andabata fought with a helmet which made it so they couldn't see. They fought blind.
ARBELAS
These gladiators fought against each other with short, curved swords used to cut leather.
BESTIARIUS
This was a gladiator who fought wild animals or beasts. They never fought other humans.
BUSTUARIOUS
The Bustuarious was a Tomb fighter. His name came from a type of fighting used at funeral games.
CESTUS
This was a fighter who just used his fists and brawled with his opponent. He wore a cestus, which was a brutal boxing glove.
DIMACHAERUS
This fighter didn't have much armour but he had two swords, one in each hand.
EQUITES
A lightly armoured fighter on a horse. He had a spear and a short sword. They only fought other equites.
HOPLOMACHUS
Hoplomachus wore quilted, trouser-like leg wrappings, loincloth, a belt, a pair of long shin-guards or greaves, an arm guard (manica) on the sword-arm, and a brimmed helmet.
GLADIATRIX
A female gladiator of any type.
LAQUEARIUS
This fighter got people in a lasso and stabbed them to death with a dagger. He could also throttle his opponent.
MURMILLO
The Murmillo carried a gladius (40–50 cm long) and a tall, oblong shield in the legionary style.
RETIARIUS
The Retiarius carried a long trident and a net. He snagged the opponent in the net and stabbed him with his trident.
SAGITTARIUS
The Sagittarius had a strong, reflexive bow, able to shoot the length of the colosseum.
SAMNITE
The Samnite was an early type of heavily-armed fighter. He was armed with a big sheild and a good short sword. They usually won there fights as they had good weapons.
SCISSOR
The Scissor used a special short sword with two blades that looked like a pair of open scissors without a hinge.
SECUTOR
This fighter was developed to fight the Retiarius. It had a smooth helmet so the net couldn't snag on it and two miniscule eye slits so the trident couldn't poke into the helmet.
THRAEX
The Thraex had a small round or square-shaped shield, two thigh-length greaves and a long, curved sword.
VELITES
The Velites fought other gladiators on foot, with a spear. The spear had a attached peice of string to help for throwing.
