A primary source is a peice of information (e.g. diary or a painting) that came from a person from the time of the event. It is usually written but it can be a mosaic, vase or painting. You should have more than one primary source because the conclusion you end up with would be biased or untruthful. An example of a biased source would be from the time of 'Bad king John.' The monks and public would think he was a mean king but his brother thought he was good for him to run the country when he was gone. Anyway, back to gladiators.
This primary source is of a gladiator fight. It shows the brutallity and gore of the gladiator fights. You can see all of the types of gladiators. From left to right the gladiators are: a basic gladiator, a Murmillo, Two Andabatas, a Thraex , another Murmillo, a referee, a Scissor and a Samnites. I did some research and found that the signal the murmillo is doing to the referee means that he wants to surrender. There is a grizzily wound on the basic gladiators shin. It is spurting blood onto the floor. There is a Retiarus's trident on the floor.
This primary source is a vase. It shows a duel between what looks like a Cestus or a Hoplomachus without a helmet (right.) against a samnite (left.). There are some inscriptions around the top of the vase in gold. You can just see the back end of a dog or wolf going to the right of the vase and there is another trident on the floor under the samnites feet.
